Proces
01
Script/Storyboard
This short film guides us through the youth of František Pecháček and the events that shaped his personality. Pecháček became famous mainly as the creator of a mass group choreography in Strahov, Prague, which concludes this film.
02
Visual Style
The historical context led us to explore the world of hand-drawn animation. We chose colors according to the Czech tricolor, which are also the main colors of Sokol - red, white and blue. In the first designs the color scheme also included light blue.
Watercolor
In order to enhance this “paper-like” visual, we’ve worked with textures of classic handmade techniques such as chalk and watercolor
Lines
In the first animation tests, the lines were too precise and uniform, which was not desirable in this project. That's why we’ve processed the drawings with deformations and wiggles to emphasize handwork, even though the video was created digitally.
03
Production Process
01
First we create an animatic to set up the correct scene order and flow. The timing of this animatic was adjusted later on according to the recorded voiceover.
02
Then we started to work with camera and space. We’ve created scenes in a 3D environment and combined them with a live-action footage.
03
It was now possible to start drawing the individual lines frame by frame. This is what the animation looks like with a clean line. Here you can see how we worked with transitions.
04
Several designated areas in the animations are painted. You may notice that this is not meant to be just filling, but rather shading.
05
On top of that we put in digital visual elements which support the feeling of movement and space.
06
In the last stage, the image gets to its final form by using various filters and fine textures. All that remains is sound and the movie is born
